Through years even centuries of occupations by foreign powers -- never for better only for worse -- the soul of this beautiful land has survived intact. PATIENCE

Youthful laugh. Cantilena.

Girls are dancing in a circle,

And I, under the feet, under the ground –

Lying, listening in silence.
